Teams and games may be co\u2010ed. This 4v4 competition is designed to give young players the maximum number of touches on the ball. <strong>Max roster size is 8.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">THE BALL AND EQUIPMENT:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Size three (3) ball. Shin\u2010guards MANDATORY. Tennis shoes, soft\u2010cleated or molded\u2010rubber soccer shoes are permissible. <strong>No casts. No watches. No jewelry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">DURATION OF GAME:<\/span><\/strong> Each game will consist of FOUR 8\u2010minute quarters (U6) and FOUR 10-minute quarters (U8). Two-minute breaks between quarters and five minutes for half\u2010time.<\/p>\n<p>4.<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong> PLAYER SUBSTITUTION:<\/strong><\/span> Unlimited substitution. Wait for a break in play (ball out of bounds or goal) and alert the referee. Only once referee has acknowledged substitution may you substitute the players. All players must play a minimum 50% of the playing time for each game they attend. Equal play for all is required.<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">START AND RE\u2010START OF GAME:<\/span><\/strong> By kick\u2010off from center of the field. Opponents must be a minimum 3 yards from ball until it is kicked. Once the ball is kicked, it must be touched by someone other than the kicker before it can be played again by the kicker. You cannot score directly from a kick\u2010off. Teams not starting the game will kick\u2010off to start the second and fourth<br \/>\nquarter.<\/p>\n<p>6. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>RE\u2010START AFTER FOUL OR MISCONDUCT:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span> All free kicks taken are indirect, meaning the ball must be touched by someone other than the kicker before a goal is allowed. You cannot score directly from an indirect kick. No penalty kicks. Opponents must be a minimum of 3 yards from the ball until it is kicked. The coach or referee official should explain the infraction to the offending player before the kick is taken.<\/p>\n<p>7.<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong> RE\u2010START AFTER BALL GOES OUT\u2010OF\u2010PLAY<\/strong><\/span>: Restart the game from<br \/>\nan out\u2010of\u2010play over the touch lines (sidelines) with a kick\u2010in for U6 and a throw in for U8. Restart the game from an out\u2010of\u2010play over the goal line with a goal kick (by the defense) if the ball was last touched by the offense and a kick\u2010in (by the offense, from the corner) if the ball was last touched by the defending team. Opponents must be a minimum of 3 yards from the ball until it is kicked. Goal kicks and kick\u2010in\/throw ins are indirect; you cannot score directly from a goal kick or kick in\/throw in.<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">POSITIONS:<\/span><\/strong> Although there can be attacking, defensive or supporting<br \/>\nroles, the coaching of rigid positions for these young players is discouraged.<br \/>\nKids should be running the field and getting as many touches on the ball as<br \/>\npossible, not playing positions.<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">NO GOALKEEPERS (players who can handle the ball) and NO GOAL<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">TENDERS: <\/span><\/strong>(players who remain positioned directly in front of the goal,<br \/>\nregardless of where the ball is in play). Please encourage your kids to move<br \/>\nup field and away from the front of the goal whenever: 1) there is no imminent<br \/>\nscoring threat, or 2) your team has taken possession of the ball, or 3) the ball is in the opponent&#8217;s half of the field.<\/p>\n<p>10. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>NO OFFSIDES:<\/strong><\/span> But do not encourage or coach the kids to camp out in front of the opponents&#8217; goal unless the ball is in the immediate area.<\/p>\n<p>11. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>OFFICIATING:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 Referees will be provided. One coach per team is allowed on the field with the players in U6 (<strong>not U8<\/strong>); however, all officiating and calls are to be by the referee only.
